3 Procedures That Straighten Teeth

Posted by DR. CHRISTINE Y. LEE on Oct 14 2021, 05:11 AM

In some people, the uneven or misaligned teeth can cause a lack of confidence in them. Certain treatments for teeth straightening are quite popular, while others are not so well-known. Luckily, many great procedures are available for those who are looking to begin their teeth straightening journey.

What are the Reasons for Teeth Misalignment?

Different teeth misalignment issues have different root causes, such as:

  • Habits, such as thumb sucking, are some of the most common causes of misalignment. Although the habit may seem harmless, it can actually lead to changes in facial structure.
  • Genetics can play a major role in whether or not someone develops a misaligned bite.
  • Patients born with a specific jaw alignment may have misaligned teeth.
  • Malocclusion can be caused by tooth grinding.
  • Mouth breathing can cause dental misalignment.
  • Tooth loss is the most common cause of misalignment in adulthood.

Procedures That Will Straighten Your Teeth

Braces

Braces are one of the most well-known orthodontic treatments. They are custom-made devices that place a constant, gentle force on the teeth to move them into the correct position. Braces are sturdy brackets that are attached to each tooth, with a wire that threads through the brackets. By tightening the wire, braces apply force to the teeth that slowly move them into the correct position.

Braces are suitable for almost all patients, as they can be customized to fit their unique needs.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® is a removable orthodontic device that uses transparent plastic trays to straighten teeth. The trays are custom designed to fit your mouth, and you can remove them before eating or drinking. Invisalign® usually requires fewer visits to the orthodontist than traditional braces, and your treatment can be completed in as little as 12 months.

Dental Veneers

Veneers can correct a number of cosmetic issues. If you don’t like your smile because it is crooked, gapped, stained, or worn, then veneers may be right for you. Veneers are thin porcelain shells that fit over the front of your teeth to improve their appearance.

To prepare for veneers, you will need to have your teeth ground down. This will ensure that there is enough room for the veneers to be placed on your teeth. After your teeth are prepared, we will take an impression of your teeth. This impression will be sent to a dental lab. There, the veneer will be designed. It will then be sent back to our office. We will make sure that you are happy with the look and feel of the veneer before bonding it to your tooth.
